Santorini

For the love of Santorini

An immense volcanic eruption over three and half thousand years ago, around 1645 BC, formed what are now Santorini’s beautiful trademarks: striking cliffs and dramatic coasts. Some say that this was the eruption that led to the demise of the lost city of Atlantis. True or not, Santorini is bathed in history, and its lush landscape paints an idyllic backdrop for a glorious getaway.

Famous for the sun-bleached houses, blue-domed churches and legendary sunsets, the island lends itself for more than that. Spend your days savoring the epicurean delicacies, the indigenous wines and unearth its mythical ancient history.

Where the allurement reigns

Mystique is surrounded by uniquely beautiful spots. Lose yourself in Oia’s backstreets, amid neoclassical mansions where captains once resided. Wander around its picturesque alleyways, filled with smart boutiques, galleries, picture-perfect cafes and the island’s classic blue-domed churches.

Take the steps that lead down to tiny, postcard-perfect Ammoudi Bay, which lies hidden below Oia. This was where crews once loaded up sailing boats with local products like prized Vinsanto. Storehouses, where the goods were kept, have since been converted into traditional seafront fish tavernas framed by rust-hued cliffs.

Cool off with a dip in blue-green waters at nearby Agios Nikolaos, named after the minuscule chapel built into a rock formation rising up out of the sea.
